WHAT’S IN MY HOSPITAL BAG-UPDATED!

Photography by Shadi Garman

Dress: Octavia Maternity

Hi Guys!! Baby Charlee has been with us now for 12 days already!! Since giving birth, I wanted to update this post to share the items that I used and items that were sort of useless at the hospital!

What I packed for myself:

-Louis Vuitton duffel bag

-Nursing PJ set (I didn’t wear this at all. I kept the same nightgown and robe on for the two nights we stayed in the hospital.)

-Motherhood Maternity Nursing nightgown (I LOVED this nightgown. I still wear it at night now that we are home. It’s super soft and comfy)

-I Love Sia nursing bras (no need for these at the hospital but great nursing bra)

-I Love Sia nursing tank tops  (no need for these at the hospital but great nursing tank)

-Maternity Underwear (hospital provided special underwear. These are great undies now that I am not pregnant anymore but the hospital provided me with what I needed. I have been wearing this underwear every day since I had the baby. It helps with keeping my belly wrapped tight to me and I think has assisted in the fact that my belly has gone down so much.)

-Slippers (didn’t use them. I actually wore waterproof birkenstocks to the hospital that I used to walk to and from the bathroom.)

Fluffy socks (I was super cold after birth as my body was in shock. These cozy socks really helped.)

-Toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, face wash, lotion, deodorant,  a small pack of these makeup remover wipes, hair ties, brush, chapstick and earplugs. All of these items I purchased at the travel section of the pharmacy. (I didn’t shower at the hospital but I used almost everything else. It was great to have all these things to freshen up every day before guests visited.)

Fridababy Fridet Momwasher(I used the one the hospital gave me. I still use it at home. The Fridet is great, I use it in the shower. I like having two different Momwashers so I don’t have to move them from one place to another).

-Blanqi post partum leggings (I love these leggings but I was not in a place to put on pants in the hospital. All I wanted to wear was a maxi dress. Last minute I packed this nursing friendly dress and I am so glad I did as I wore it home. I didn’t use this H&M cardigan, or this maternity tank top but I wear them at home all the time.)

-Pink Blush Delivery/Nursing floral maternity nursing robe on sale now for $26! They have tons of beautiful colors and patterns on their site. (I loved this robe. It was the perfect fabric and I was never cold or too warm. I wore it on top of my maternity nightgown that I linked above.)

DermoplastTucks cooling pads  and New Mama Bottom Spray for after birth relief. I’ve heard Moms swear by each of these so I packed them all! (The hospital provided me with all of this but I have been using all of these items post birth. I have to shout out the New Mama Bottom Spray. It is AWESOME!)

-Extra long i-phone charger  and plug (This was amazing and totally necessary. I am so glad I ordered the extra long cord because the plugs were far from the bed and I was obviously not very mobile after birth so I was able to have my phone charged and near me the whole time.)

-Upspring coconut oil based nipple balm. I also use Sky Organics coconut oil at home which is awesome. I use it all over as a moisturizer, but beware you will smell like a coconut :). (This was great to have. The first few days of breastfeeding is really tough on your nipples so I was super happy I had this.)

-Snacks! I packed a ton of bars. I really love these fig bars. Have you guys tried them? They are really healthy and delish. (I was happy I packed these because the hospital food was yucky. Matt and I ordered seamless to the hospital and I would have these bars in between meals if I got hungry.)

-My Breast Friend nursing pillow ( This was a LIFE SAVER! Breastfeeding is really challenging, especially the first few days and I had Charlee in my arms constantly. Having this pillow really helped me!)

What I packed for Baby Girl:

-I packed her things separately in our Skip Hop Diaper Bag. (Glad I packed her diaper bag for the ride home although it was a short ride and I didn’t really need it.)

Baby book, my best friend Mackenzie gifted us this gorgeous baby book. I am bringing it to the hospital so I can get baby girl’s footprint stamped on a page in the book. (I was thrilled I brought this!  I was able to get the nurse to put her footprint into the book when they took the imprint. A special memory!)

-Two pairs of pajamas- I bought these bodysuits and the matching footie pants and hats from H&M. I love their baby clothes. I also am bringing a floral footie from Carter’s. (I didn’t put the baby in any clothes until it was time to go home. The h and m outfits are great but too many pieces for taking her home in. We ended up putting her in a footie similar to this one from Carter’s.)

Bibs (Didn’t use, but these are awesome bibs!!!)

socks (Didn’t use, and never really put socks on her.)

mittens These were awesome!! Charlee’s fingernails were so sharp she kept scratching herself. We put her in mittens for the whole time to protect her little face.)

-Milkmaid Goods swaddle and matching headband for pictures. (Didn’t get a chance to use this at the hospital.)

Water wipes. I heard hospitals provide wipes but that you have to wet them to use them. I am bringing these just in case, plus they are super sensitive against baby’s skin. (Bring your own wipes. For some reason the hospital has wipes you have to wet yourself to use them! So silly since the sink was far from my bed. Super happy we brought wipes.)

-Pacifiers: I brought my own since a lot of people have told me babies tend to favor pacifiers they are given right away. I brought these Phillps Avent brand. (I didn’t use these. I actually haven’t given Charlee a paci yet and we are going to try to keep it that way. Wish us luck!!)

Pampers Swaddlers newborn diapers (The hospital had plenty of diapers for us)

-Aiden and Anais muslin swaddle blanket (Used this to take baby from hospital to the uber. The sun was really strong so we threw this over the car seat to protect her skin.)

-Two Burts Bees burp cloths (YES! Bring your own birp cloths. These are my favorites.)

-Mustela diaper rash cream (Didn’t use)

-Baby Organics hand sanitizer (Great to have on hand.)

I also wanted to add that at the last second I brought the snoogle haha! This was super helpful when it came to having support for my back when I slept in the uncomfortable hospital bed.

I hope this is helpful to any of you who are expecting a baby in the near future! I am really happy that I brought all these items. I was super surprised by how much I actually used. It is such a different experience for everyone but I hope my experience is helpful!

ONLINE SHOPPING TIPS WHEN PREGNANT!

Dress, BootsDress, HeelsTop, JeansDressTopDress Dress, Jacket

Dress, PurseDress Dress Dress Dress Dress Dress Dress Dress Dress DressDress

Hi Everyone! Thanks for stopping by! Now that I am 7 days away from my due date, I feel like I have a really great grasp on how to best navigate online shopping when you’re pregnant! A friend asked me for some insight and recommended that I write a blog post about this so here it is! I hope you guys find this helpful. I wish I had known about a lot of these tips before I bought some of the items in my maternity wardrobe.

Pregnancy can feel like it lasts forever when you’re in it, but it’s only 10 months of your life. It’s important to enjoy the process of dressing the bump but also to purchase items that you are going to really wear and maybe have use for after the little one joins you! I live in NYC and surprisingly there aren’t a lot of maternity stores around here. Although I will say that even if there were, I probably wouldn’t have been trucking around pregnant to go shop in-store. I found that I was going to do most of my shopping online and I learned a few things from doing this:

1.ASOS. My favorite place to purchase maternity clothing has to be Asos. They offer this really incredible annual deal called Asos Premier for free two day shipping and returns (similar to Amazon prime) except that it’s only $19. You can check it out here. I can’t tell you how many items I have purchased, received in two days, tried on in the comfort of my own home, and then returned via mail. It’s really the easiest and best way to shop in general, especially for maternity. It’s also great when you aren’t sure if you are in between sizes. I would just order two sizes and return the one that didn’t fit. It’s so easy! They also have really affordable apparel and since I won’t be pregnant forever (even though it feels like I have been!) I can buy more and not feel guilty about spending lots of money.

2. Le Tote. I SO WISH I had known about Le Tote earlier in my pregnancy. I didn’t find out about it until I was 6 months pregnant! Le Tote is an online rental service that offers maternity clothing (and regular clothing) as an option to rent. It’s around $70 a month and you get 4 items per “box.” The shipping is super fast and I usually get about 4 new items every 8-9 days. They have stylists that can pick items out for you but I always change what they pick and choose what I want. I really can’t say enough about this service. The customer service is awesome and the items always arrive clean and neat. It’s brilliant!

3.Nordstrom. Nordstrom is an awesome destination for maternity clothing. They offer free shipping and returns, the only thing is that it is ground (not 2 day like Asos). They carry a ton of maternity brands that I discovered from their site. Some of my favorite brands I discovered on their site are Kimi and Kai Maternity, Seraphine Maternity and Tart Maternity to name a few.

4. A few other online destinations that I shopped from are H&M and Old Navy. H&M you have to pay for shipping, but they do provide return labels which is nice. Old Navy has free shipping on orders over $50.

5. One place I do not recommend shopping from online is Destination Maternity and Motherhood Maternity. They have an amazing selection of high end to low end maternity items HOWEVER they do not offer return shipping. They won’t even offer you a printable return label. I learned this the hard way after ordering a few things and having to take it all to the post office, purchase my own return label and send back. So annoying! If you live nearby one of these locations then you can return in store, but the closest one to me is about 4o min away and an expensive cab drive away. I am not speaking ill of the company but they aren’t very forthcoming with this information on their site and I found it a little sneaky.

Ok, I think that’s about it for my online shopping tips when pregnant! Do you guys have any other places you would recommend shopping online when pregnant?!

PREGNANT DATE NIGHT CHIC

Photography by Shadi Garman

Dress: Kimi and Kai c/o Bag: Chanel Sandals: Asos

Hi Everyone! Happy Tuesday! I was planning on posting this look yesterday but I unfortunately pulled my neck out and went home early from work to rest. I am feeling a little better today but really hoping my neck heals before I go into labor. The LAST thing I want to worry about is neck pain. Anyways, I have three more days in the office and then I am planning on working from home next week until the big due date. It’s so surreal to think I only have 10 days left before she is technically supposed to join us. Who knows if she will come early or late though! The not knowing is driving me nuts! This past weekend, Matt and I went out for date night and I wore this beautiful black and white long dress by Kimi and Kai. I know I have featured a ton of this line on the blog, but I have to be honest and say that I am obsessed! Their dresses are super flattering and I can’t say enough about the fabric they use. I feel like I’m wearing pajamas which at this point in my pregnancy is necessary ha!

I am planning on taking it super easy this week. Hoping baby stays baking until this stupid neck pain goes away!

38 WEEK BUMPDATE

Photography by Shadi Garman

Dress: Kimi and Kai C/O

Happy Friday everybody!! Today I am officially 38 weeks pregnant and SO READY to have this baby. Maybe it’s the heat, but it is really challenging to be so pregnant. I am not sure what I was thinking being heavily pregnant in the middle of July but hey at least the end is near! Everyone told me “Just wait for the end” and I had no idea what they meant…well now I do! It ain’t easy! That said, I feel so close! I can’t believe we are so close to meeting baby girl! Anyways, I love love the colors of this Kimi and Kai dress. It’s this really nice stretch jersey fabric and I love the fit. I hope you guys enjoy my bumpdate below!

How far along are you?

38 weeks!! 9 Months pregnant and 2 weeks away from my due date!

Due Date:

August 4th

What are your cravings?

I am so hungry and thirsty 24/7. I can’t seem to quench my thirst. It’s really weird! I have been craving fruit and iced tea. I also have recently discover the Acai Bowls at Juice Generation and I am obsessed with the JackPot one. It’s SO GOOD!

Boy or Girl?

Baby girl 🙂

What size is the baby?

No idea at this point. Two weeks ago she was 6 lbs 12 ounces and supposedly the baby gains a 1/2 lb per week so she must be close to 8 lbs by now right?? EEEK!

How much weight have you gained?

44 lbs. AAAH. I know I am tall so my weight gain is different than most ladies but it’s crazy to see that number! Carrying around the extra weight is SO tough and I am looking forward to getting back into shape once baby girl arrives.

How are you sleeping?

It’s hit or miss. Some nights I sleep really well and other nights I sleep terribly. It just depends!

Have you felt the baby kick?

Ohhhh yea! Baby is so big in my belly. I actually called the dr. last week because baby was moving SO much I thought she was in distress. Apparently there is no such thing as too much movement so all good.

What has been the hardest thing about your pregnancy thus far?

The end is the hardest. Physically it is super difficult, but it’s also tough becuase I know that these are our last two weeks before our life gets flipped upside down. I am trying to find the energy to take advantage of our time together and see friends etc. but I am just so uncomfortable. I sort of feel guilty that all I want to do is hole up in our apartment and lay horizontally on my couch! I know it’s fine and I need to rest, but I weirdly feel bad about it.

What do you miss about before being pregnant?

WINE! MARGARITAS! COLD CUTS!

Thoughts, and extras

I can’t wait to meet baby girl 🙂 What do you guys think? Is she coming early?? Or do you think she is going to take her sweet time?

COLORBLOCK MATERNITY DRESS

Photography by Shadi Garman

Dress: Kimi and Kai C/O Sandals: Asos

Hey guys! Being pregnant and feeling good in your clothes is a really tough feat. Your body is always changing and I for one had a tough time embracing the belly and weight gain that went along with it! I have really made it my mission to find clothing that has made me feel beautiful throughout this experience, and I just discovered a brand that does just that! Kimi and Kai Maternity reached out to me asking if I would be willing to try some of their pieces. I instantly fell in love with the quality and the fit of their line. I also loved this specific color block dress with the strategically placed curves! Super flattering! I’ll be sharing a few more looks from this line on the blog over the next few weeks!

Anyways, today I am heading to the doctor for my 38 week check up. I am anxious to see if I have progressed at all. I keep thinking I am going into labor every other day but I figure I’ll know for sure when the time comes!! Wish me luck!

A CHAMBRAY MINI DRESS

Photography by Shadi Garman

Dress: Octavia Maternity Similar options here, here and here Earrings: H&M (sold out online but available in-store) similar here and here Shoes: Adidas

Hey guys! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you all had a great weekend. Matt’s Dad came to visit us and we spent the weekend basically eating our way through NYC which as a very pregnant lady, was fine by me! Have you guys tried ABC Cocina? We went there for dinner on Saturday night and it was delicious! They had an amazing virgin piña colada which I thoroughly enjoyed ha! Anyways, as you all know, my feet are so swollen so I have had to get very creative with my styling the last few months of my pregnancy. Adidas came out with a bunch of colors of these striped slides and I picked up a navy and red pair. They have been sold out a ton of places so I’m so excited I found them stocked in all sizes at Journey’s.

I also really love this off the shoulder mini dress. To be honest, it’s a little on the short side for my tall frame and big belly, but it will be great to wear after baby and my options are limited at the moment ha! I linked a ton of other options for you guys. I think a chambray off the shoulder dress is a total wardrobe must have for summer. They are so comfy and versatile!

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

37 WEEK BUMPDATE!

Look at that bump!!!! INSANE!

Photography by Shadi Garman

Earrings: Sugarfix c/0 Necklace: Sugarfix c/o Dress: Seraphine Maternity Sandals: Asos

Happy Friday everyone!!! This week surprisingly flew by which is funny because I thought the next weeks would go by at a snail’s pace since I’m so close to baby’s arrival. Work has been super busy which has kept me occupied! For those of you who don’t know, blogging is my part time hobby. I actually work full time for Iconix Brand Group as a Marketing Manager for a portfolio of women’s and home brands in NYC. I love my job, but it has been SUPER tough to get up in the morning and go to work. The mornings are my toughest time and having to get up early, shower and look presentable all before 9 A.M. is the last thing I want to do most days. It’s also especially hard to commute in this heat! I actually have a ridiculously short commute (I work 20 blocks from my apt.) but the subway and walking in the summer heat is tough on me. I am also thinking that maybe it’s time for me NOT to take the subway! Can you imagine if my water broke on the subway! Ha! WORST NIGHTMARE!

Anyways, that was quite a rant haha! Let’s talk this look! Now that I am 37 weeks pregnant, I clearly am not planning on buying any more maternity clothing. That ship has sailed! I have been wearing some of the same things on repeat and just updating the accessories to create different looks. I was super excited when Sugarfix by BaubleBar asked if I wanted to try out their accessories. I am a huge fan of BaubleBar and had no idea they had another collection available at Target! They sent me a number of pieces and I really love them! This turquoise set is gorgeous and I love a statement earring and necklace and especially a statement set. I kept the rest of the look pretty minimal since I wanted the jewelry to be the focus of the outfit. I paired it with these Asos sandals which are the only nice shoe that fit me right now. I actually had to take them to the shoe cobbler to get the band and clasp extended because they were getting too tight haha!

How far along are you?

37 weeks!! 9 Months pregnant and 3 weeks away from my due date!

Due Date:

August 4th

What are your cravings?

I am SO thirsty all the time. I can’t get enough water, iced tea or anything refreshing. It may be because it’s just so dang hot out but either way I am constantly drinking fluids! I am also still loving fruit, especially blueberries and peaches. I also had the most delicious sausage, egg and cheese sandwich the other day and that sounds REALLY good right about now ha!

Boy or Girl?

Baby girl 🙂

What size is the baby?

We had our 36 week ultrasound and were told that the baby was already 6 lbs 12 ounces so at this point it’s been a week and they gain a half lb per week until birth so I think she is probably over 7 lbs already! They think she will be 8-8.5 lbs at birth! EEK!

How much weight have you gained?

42 lbs. Insane. I will say the swelling has gotten worse and a lot of my weight gain is from that. At this point too, the baby is gaining a ton of weight so I am feeling that as well. It’s not easy to carry the weight around. Since I haven’t been able to exercise throughout my pregnancy I have tried to walk at least a few miles a day. I still do, but it is REALLY tough to walk with the extra weight…phew!

How are you sleeping?

I am sleeping well but I get up 3-4 times a night to go to the restroom now! The baby is just sitting right on my bladder!

Have you felt the baby kick?

Yep! Baby girl is a mover and a shaker. She is also getting so big that she has started to kick my ribs. The other day I was in a meeting and she kicked me so hard in the rib that I yelled out! My poor co-workers thought I was in labor and freaked out!!

What has been the hardest thing about your pregnancy thus far?

If you’ve been following along you know this hasn’t been a cake walk for me but I am tired of complaining. I am just so excited to meet this baby girl and start our little family. I only have three weeks to go, maybe less so I can handle whatever comes!!

What do you miss about before being pregnant?

WINE!

Thoughts, and extras

I can’t believe Matt and I only have these next few weeks just the two of us. Going to give him extra snuggles and cuddles because I’m sure we will both be obsessed with giving baby girl all the love when she arrives!!

xoxo,

J

GINGHAM MATERNITY DRESS

Photography by Shadi Garman

Dress: Asos Sandals: Birkenstock Bag: Asos Necklace: Kris Nations Mystic Bar Necklace

Happy Wednesday everybody!! I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far. I can’t believe I am slowly coming to the end of my pregnancy. I have three weeks from Friday until my due date and it’s getting pretty surreal. Since I’m so close to the end I am really not buying anything new unless I feel like I can wear it after baby. I got this Asos dress because I figured it would be an awesome post-pardum option. The off the shoulder neckline makes it really easy to breast feed and the flowy bodice will cover up my middle. I also loved that it was only $40! I also had been looking for a white bucket bag to wear during the summer and I found this cute Asos one for under $40 too. I have worn it every day since I got it and I love that it is faux leather so I can just wipe it clean!

I hope you all have a great rest of your week!

NEW YORK CITY BLUES + MY 36 WEEK BUMPDATE

Photography by Shadi Garman

Dress: Tart Collections in black here Sandals: Birkenstocks haha! Earrings: H & M

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July! Matt and I had a very busy weekend. We went out to the Jersey shore for an overnight on Saturday and then the rest of the weekend we spent nesting and organizing for baby girl to arrive! We set up EVERYTHING and I honestly have to say I feel ready for her to come. It’s so surreal having all her things just set up and ready and all we need is a little babe to bring home. I am exactly one month from my due date as of yesterday, so I thought I’d do another “bumpdate” for those of you who want to know how my pregnancy has been going recently!

How far along are you?

I will be 36 weeks on Friday and a month out from my due date. Officially 9 months!

Due Date:

August 4th

What are your cravings?

iced tea, fruit (obsessed with peaches at the moment), bagels, donuts, ice cream, and I can’t get enough water. I am so thirsty all the time!

Boy or Girl?

Baby Girl!

What size is the baby?

We find out Friday exactly how much baby weighs but my app says baby should weigh around 5.5 lbs and is the size of a spaghetti squash. I have a feeling she weighs more than that considering how uncomfortable this has gotten!

How much weight have you gained?

I have gained 38 lbs and man do I feel it. It’s a weird thing to just watch the scale go up every week. I am pretty healthy most of the time and do my best to stay as active as I can. I can’t really exercise because of my back but I walk at least 2-3 miles a day. The weight I have gained feels different than fat. It’s hard to explain. I have such swollen everything, feet, hands, arms, legs, etc. and I feel like I just retain so much water. I have been told by my doctor that this is totally normal so I am just going with the flow, but it is so hard to gain weight. I have always been on the trimmer side so my body is certainly feeling the affects of the weight gain!

How are you sleeping?

I am still getting my sleep but it is becoming more and more difficult to get comfortable. The baby just feels really big these days and I have to have support under my belly to fall asleep. Thank goodness for the snoogle ;)!

Have you felt the baby kick yet?

Yes but instead of kicks I feel intense movement. She really favors the right side and has started to stretch her feet out and press. It’s the weirdest sensation and Matt has been able to actually feel her little feet through my belly. It isn’t comfortable for me but it’s so cute I don’t mind ;)!

What has been the hardest thing about your pregnancy thus far?

At this point physically everything is tough. I am super uncomfortable. I feel so unsteady and am definitely starting to waddle ha! I heard the last month is the hardest and I can confirm it certainly is!

What do you miss about before being pregnant?

Wearing cute shoes and heels! I can only wear my Birkenstocks and a few pairs of mens adidas sandals I bought lol. It is a bit limiting fashion wise ;). I’m also just ready to have my body back and not be in pain and uncomfortable all the time.

Thoughts, and extras

I am SO ready to have this baby and sometimes get overwhelmed thinking I still have at least four weeks left to go. I have to remind myself that this discomfort is going to result in a beautiful little girl but it isn’t easy to be content and present. Thank god for my amazing husband who is so supportive and loving. We are doing all we can to soak up this time just the two of us before baby girl comes.
